The Little Red Hen

the little red hen

Once upon a time, in a cozy little farm, there lived a Little Red Hen. She was a hardworking and kind little hen. One sunny morning, as she pecked around the farm, she found some seeds.

The Little Red Hen thought, “I can use these seeds to make delicious bread.” So, she asked her friends, the Duck, the Cat, and the Pig, “Who will help me plant these seeds?”

The Duck quacked and said, “Not I!”

The Cat meowed and said, “Not I!”

The Pig oinked and said, “Not I!”

The Little Red Hen was a little sad, but she didn’t give up. She planted the seeds in the soft, brown soil all by herself. She watered them and watched them grow.

When the wheat grew tall and golden, the Little Red Hen knew it was time to harvest it. So, she asked her friends again, “Who will help me harvest the wheat?”

The Duck quacked and said, “Not I!”

The Cat meowed and said, “Not I!”

The Pig oinked and said, “Not I!”

The Little Red Hen was a little tired, but she didn’t give up. She harvested the wheat all by herself.

Next, she carried the wheat to the mill and ground it into flour. Then she asked her friends once more, “Who will help me bake the bread?”

The Duck quacked and said, “Not I!”

The Cat meowed and said, “Not I!”

The Pig oinked and said, “Not I!”

The Little Red Hen was determined. She baked the bread all by herself and the farm smelled wonderful.

When the bread was warm and ready, she asked her friends one last time, “Who will help me eat this delicious bread?”

This time, the Duck quacked, the Cat meowed, and the Pig oinked, “We will!”

But the Little Red Hen shook her head and said, “I will eat it all by myself because I did all the work.”

And she enjoyed her warm, delicious bread all alone. The Little Red Hen learned that when you work hard and help others, you deserve to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

And from that day on, the Little Red Hen’s friends understood the importance of helping and working together.

  • Who wanted to make bread in the story?
  • What did the hen ask her friends to do?
  • Did the friends help the hen?
  • What did the hen do when the bread was ready?
  • What is the moral of the story?
